Currently, our biggest fear is waking up tomorrow or the day after to the heartbreaking news: "Sonam Wangchuk is no more." That would be a devastating moment, especially for the youth of this nation.
We never had the privilege of witnessing the freedom fighters—we only read about their sacrifices in history books. But today, we are witnessing someone who has chosen to raise his voice through peaceful protest for issues he believes affect the future of the country. The thought that such sacrifices could go unnoticed or be forgotten would be a tragedy for our generation.
It deeply saddens me to see what feels like a lack of urgency from those in power. While governments focus on economic growth, diplomacy, and strengthening India's global position, the well-being and concerns of the people should never be overlooked. After all, a nation is nothing without its people.
Whether one agrees with every demand or not, Sonam Wangchuk's commitment has sparked an important conversation about education, the environment, and governance. His willingness to sacrifice his comfort for what he believes in deserves attention, dialogue, and a humane response—not silence.
I sincerely hope that no life is lost before meaningful action is taken. A democracy is strongest when it listens to peaceful voices and addresses them with empathy and responsibility.
