Percentage to Fraction Converter

Convert any percentage into its simplest fraction form.

As a Fraction (simplified)

3/4

A percentage can always be written as a fraction out of 100, and that fraction can usually be simplified into smaller, easier-to-read numbers. This is a common requirement in school maths, where answers are often expected in "simplest form" rather than as an unsimplified fraction like 75/100.

This tool converts any percentage directly into a fraction and automatically reduces it to its lowest terms using the greatest common divisor of the numerator and denominator.

Fraction = Percentage / 100, then simplify by dividing both parts by their GCD

GCD = greatest common divisor of the numerator and the denominator.

Worked example

Question: Convert 75% to a fraction.
Step 1 โ€” Write as a fraction out of 100: 75/100
Step 2 โ€” Find the GCD of 75 and 100, which is 25
Step 3 โ€” Divide both numbers by 25: 75 รท 25 = 3, and 100 รท 25 = 4
Answer: 75% simplifies to the fraction 3/4.

50% = 1/2, 25% = 1/4, 20% = 1/5, 10% = 1/10, and 33.33...% (recurring) = 1/3. Recognising these common ones by heart makes a lot of mental maths much faster.

A percentage like 12.5% can still be converted โ€” first multiply both the percentage and 100 by 10 to clear the decimal (giving 125/1000), then simplify as usual, which gives 1/8.

How do I convert a percentage to a fraction?

Write the percentage as a fraction over 100, then simplify by dividing both the top and bottom by their greatest common divisor.

What is 20% as a fraction?

20% is 20/100, which simplifies to 1/5.

How do I convert a percentage with a decimal, like 12.5%, to a fraction?

Multiply both the percentage and 100 by a power of 10 to remove the decimal first (12.5% becomes 125/1000), then simplify as normal โ€” this gives 1/8.
